Treylon Raines is an Atlanta-based artist, known for his pursuit of painting, which began in 1991 and continues today.
From 1991 to 1995, Raines studied visual arts at the Baldwin Magnet School and the Carver Creative and Performing Arts Schools in Montgomery, Alabama, under the tutelage of Jim Gunter. In 1997, he attended Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Alabama where he majored in architecture and construction science. In 2003, he designed a solar house for a world-wide competition held in Washington, DC. where his design entry placed in the top 10.
In 2019, after a 20-year break from the arts due to focusing on architecture and building a successful construction business, Raines pulled out the brush and canvas. His creative work just flowed from his thought process.
Raines is becoming widely known for his iconic use of vibrant bold colors, with dark backgrounds, to give his paintings a three-dimensional feel. 2021 is quickly becoming a break out year for Raines with the launching of his website, panel discussions, art auctions, and gallery exhibitions. Raines is also in the planning stages of opening his own studio, where he plans to expand his types of art from oil/acrylic on canvas to relief prints to sculptures.
Treylon Raines is a 1999 Gamma Epsilon Chapter initiate of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.® He has been active in the following alumni chapters: Mobile Alumni, Alabaster-Pelham Alumni (charter member), and Birmingham Alumni. Brother Raines is also a Life Member.
The artist and two of his fellow fraternity brothers, came up with the concept of creating a painting of this historical house. The house, is still standing to this day in Bloomington, IN at 721 Hunter Ave.
This house is recognized as the 1st fraternity house of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.®, which was founded in 1911 at Indiana University in Bloomington. The student founders of Kappa Alpha Psi® leased the house around 1914, to live close to the campus, since African-American students were not permitted to live in campus housing.
